Sant’Andrea a Doccia

La Chiesa di Sant’Andrea a Doccia appare già in documenti dei primi anni dell’anno mille. Dal Libro di Montaperti (1260) e dagli elenchi delle Decime (1274-1303) possiamo constatare che la pieve di Doccia era la sede del fonte battesimale di tutta la popolazione delle parrocchie vicine Novoli, Farneto, Sieci, Strada, Montalto, Galiga e Fornello. L’edificio ha subìto numerose modifiche nel tempo tanto che dell’architettura medievale rima-ne solo la struttura muraria. La chiesa è stata completamente ristrutturata nel XVII secolo e poi ancora nel 1921. Il portico anteriore risale a un ulteriore intervento di restauro operato tra il 1968 e il 1972. Tra gli arredi interni ricordiamo la Ma-donna con Bambino, Sant'Anna e Santi Andrea e Giovanni Battista (dipinto ad olio della scuola del Ghirlandaio, 1503) e un tabernacolo di terracotta vetriata del XVI secolo attribuito ad Andrea della Robbia

Evidence of the presence of the church of Sant’Andrea a Doccia dates back to the beginning of the 11th century. The “Montaperti book” (1260) and the tables of the tithes (1247-1303) described it as the baptistery for all the people coming from the nearby churches of Novoli, Farneto, Sieci, Strada, Montalto, Galiga and Fornello. The building underwent profound changes over time and the wall structure is the only original part of its medieval architecture that we can still admire today. The church was entirely restored in the 17th century and again in 1921. The front portico was later renovated between 1968 and 1972. The artistic heritage of the church includes the paintings Madonna with child, St. Anne, St. Andrew and St. John the Baptist (Ghirlandaio school, 1503), a clay tabernacle from the 16th century credited to Andrea della Robbia himself
